JPG to PNG Converter
Convert JPG photos to PNG without changing a single pixel, one image or a batch.
Convert JPG images to PNG
Some apps, templates and upload forms ask for PNG, and PNG is the better format to work in when you will edit an image many times. This converter turns JPG files into PNGs with every pixel kept exactly, one image or a batch in a ZIP. Each PNG has the same width and height as its JPG. Everything happens in this browser tab, and nothing is uploaded.
Every pixel stays exactly as it was
PNG is lossless, so the conversion is exact. We converted a 12-megapixel JPG photo in Microsoft Edge 156 on 30 October 2026 and compared the two pictures pixel by pixel. Not a single pixel changed. That also means converting does not improve the picture. Any blockiness or blur in the JPG is now stored exactly in the PNG.
What you gain is a file that never loses more. A JPG loses a little detail every time it is edited and saved. A PNG can be cropped, retouched and saved as often as you like, and stays as it was.
Expect a much larger file for photos
| Photo, 4032 × 3024 | Size | Time |
|---|---|---|
| The JPG | 3.3 MB | - |
| As PNG | 14.7 MB | 1.0 s |
The PNG was 4.5 times the size of the JPG. That is normal for a photograph, which has millions of slightly different pixels. A screenshot that had been saved as JPG grew almost as much, 3.8 times, from 97 KB to 367 KB. PNG packs flat colour well, but it also has to keep the faint noise JPG left around the text. If a form wants PNG under a size limit, Resize Image can make the picture smaller in pixels first.
Phone photos come out upright, without their details
Phones often store a photo sideways, with a tag that says which way is up. The converter turns the picture upright before saving it, so the PNG shows the right way up in every app. In our test a picture stored sideways came out upright. PNGs from this tool carry no photo details: the date, the camera and the location are left out, which is useful before you share a picture. To keep the date taken, convert to JPG instead.
How to convert JPG to PNG
Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No. The PNG holds exactly the pixels the JPG had, including any blockiness JPG compression left behind. In our test not one pixel changed. What PNG adds is that you can edit and save it again and again without losing anything more.
Why is the PNG so much larger than the JPG?
JPG throws away detail the eye barely notices, and PNG keeps every pixel exactly. A photo has millions of slightly different pixels to keep: our 3.3 MB JPG photo became a 14.7 MB PNG. Even a screenshot that had been saved as JPG grew from 97 KB to 367 KB, because PNG also stores the faint noise JPG left around the text.
Does the PNG get a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency to carry over, so the PNG is solid too. Converting is the first step, though: once it is a PNG, an image editor can erase the background and save the transparency.
Will a sideways phone photo come out the right way up?
Yes. Phones often store a photo sideways with a note saying which way is up, and some apps ignore the note. The converter turns the picture upright before saving, so the PNG is upright in every app. We tested it with a photo stored sideways.
