PNG to JPG Converter

Convert PNG screenshots and photos to JPG, with the colour you choose behind any transparent areas.

Convert PNG images to JPG

Some forms, printers and older apps take only JPG, and a photo saved as PNG is far larger than it needs to be. This converter turns PNG files into JPGs, one at a time or as a batch in a ZIP. You choose the quality, and the colour behind any transparent areas. Each JPG has the same width and height as its PNG. Everything happens in this browser tab, and nothing is uploaded.

Transparent PNG to JPG: you pick the background

A logo or a cut-out photo often sits on a transparent background. JPG has no transparency, so the clear areas must become a colour. The tool checks each PNG as you add it and offers a background only when one is needed: white, black, or any colour from the picker. Match it to the page, slide or document the image is going on, and the edge will not show.

In our test a green circle on a clear background came out with pure white corners by default, and pure black ones with black chosen. The soft edge of the circle blends into whichever colour you pick.

What converting does to a photo and to a screenshot

JPG was made for photographs, and that shows in the numbers. Measured on 30 October 2026 in Microsoft Edge 156 with the tool's own code:

PNGAs PNGJPG at 90JPG at 80
Photo, 4032 × 302414.7 MB3.2 MB1.3 MB
Screenshot, 1280 × 736112 KB97 KB-

The photo lost 78% of its size at quality 90, with its pixels moved by about 1 level in 255 on average and none by more than 32. The screenshot lost only 13%. Its pixels moved by about the same amount on average, but 0.09% of them moved by more than 32 levels: the faint smudges JPG leaves around sharp text. For screenshots, Compress PNG or converting to WebP saves more and keeps the text clean. As WebP at quality 90, the same screenshot was 50 KB.

Which quality to choose

The quality slider runs from 40 to 100 and starts at 90. At 90 a photo keeps looking like the original. Quality 80 cut our photo by more than half again, to 1.3 MB, and is the better choice for email and web pages. Quality 100 nearly doubled it, to 5.8 MB, for no visible gain. Your choice is remembered in this browser for next time.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my transparent PNG get a black background somewhere else?

JPG has no transparency, and a converter has to put something behind the clear areas. Many simply leave the hidden colour there, and that is often black. Here you choose: white by default, black, or any colour from the picker.

How much smaller will my PNG be as a JPG?

It depends on what the picture is. A photo saved as PNG shrinks a lot: our 14.7 MB photo PNG became a 3.2 MB JPG at quality 90. A screenshot hardly shrinks: our 112 KB screenshot became 97 KB, and the text picked up faint smudges.

Should I convert screenshots to JPG?

Usually not. A screenshot is flat colour and sharp text, which PNG stores exactly and JPG blurs slightly. If a screenshot must be smaller, Compress PNG or WebP keeps it sharp. Convert to JPG only when the place you are sending it accepts nothing else.

Does the JPG keep the same width and height?

Yes. Every pixel position is kept; only the way the colours are stored changes. To change the dimensions as well, use Resize Image, which can also save as JPG.
