Watch the network while you work
A cloud-based tool has to send your file somewhere to process it, and that transfer is impossible to hide from your own browser. Here is how to see it:

Set the filter to Fetch/XHR so you are only watching data requests, not images and scripts.

Pick any tool, add a large file, and run it. The bigger the file, the more obvious an upload would be.

Read the log. A cloud tool shows a POST or PUT carrying megabytes to a remote host. Piqav shows no file transfer at all — the work happens on your processor.

What Piqav won't do
Processing locally has real trade-offs. These are the honest limits:
- It can't recover a lost password.Unlocking a PDF requires the correct password. There is no brute-force cracking here, by design.
- It can't sync between devices.Nothing is stored on a server, so there is no file history and no cross-device access. Closing the tab clears everything.
- Very large files depend on your hardware.Processing uses your own memory and processor. A several-hundred-megabyte document will strain an older machine in a way a server farm would not.
- It won't make a scan searchable on its own.A scanned page is an image. Text only becomes selectable after running it through OCR.
