Image to PNG Converter
Turn any picture - JPG, WebP, iPhone HEIC, GIF or BMP - into a PNG, with transparency kept. One image or a batch, converted on your device.
Any picture to PNG
PNG keeps a picture exactly, pixel for pixel, and can be see-through, which is why designers, documents and many upload forms ask for it. Drop in whatever you have: a phone photo, a WebP from a website, an iPhone HEIC, an old BMP. Each comes back as a PNG, and several at once arrive together in a ZIP. Your device does the work, in this tab, so no picture is sent anywhere.
What happens to each kind of picture
| You add | The PNG |
|---|---|
| JPG | Every pixel of the JPG, exactly. A photo stored sideways by a phone comes out upright. |
| WebP | The same picture, transparency kept. |
| iPhone photo (HEIC) | The photo with its colour profile, so it looks as it did on the phone. A PNG carries no date, camera or location. |
| A moving GIF or WebP | One still PNG of the opening frame: PNG has no animation here. |
| BMP | The same pixels in a smaller file: PNG packs them, BMP does not. |
To check the mix works, on 31 October 2026 we gave the page five pictures at once in Microsoft Edge: a JPG photo stored sideways, a WebP logo, an HEIC from an iPhone, a moving GIF and a BMP. Five genuine PNG files came back in a single ZIP.
How big the PNG will be
PNG keeps every pixel, and for a photograph that has a price. We measured it with real files on 31 October 2026:
| You add | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| A 12-megapixel phone photo, JPG | 3.3 MB | 14.7 MB |
| The same photo saved as WebP | 3.1 MB | 22.5 MB |
| An iPhone photo (HEIC) | 2.9 MB | 21.5 MB |
| A 1280 × 720 screenshot as BMP | 2.6 MB | 1.5 MB |
| An animated GIF (first frame kept) | 296 KB | 32 KB |
A photo grew four to seven times over: millions of slightly different pixels, each stored exactly. The WebP copy of the photo came out larger than the JPG did, because PNG also keeps the fine grain that WebP's compression adds. Flat pictures go the other way: the BMP screenshot lost almost half its size and the GIF frame nine-tenths, since PNG packs flat colour well and BMP does not pack it at all.
So use PNG for logos, screenshots, drawings, text, see-through pictures and anything you will edit again; send photos as JPG with Image to JPG. A PNG that is still too heavy can go through Compress PNG, which keeps its transparency.
How to convert an image to PNG
Frequently asked questions
Does a WebP or GIF keep its see-through background as a PNG?
Yes. PNG can be see-through, so transparent areas stay transparent. A picture with no transparency, such as a JPG photo, stays solid: converting does not remove a background.
I saved a picture from Bing and it is called OIP. Can I convert it?
Yes. Pictures saved from Bing's image search often come named OIP, with or without an extension, and are often JPG or WebP inside. Whatever the name says, the converter looks at the bytes inside to tell what the picture is, so an OIP file converts like any other.
Which of my pictures should I not turn into PNG?
Photos you only want to share. PNG keeps every pixel, so a photo as PNG is several times larger than as JPG. PNG is the right choice for logos, screenshots, drawings, and anything you will edit again or need see-through.
